Many artists, managers and labels see streaming as stripping away the already beleaguered retail sales and leaving them with only fractions of pennies for their work. Meanwhile streaming services believe holdout artists chip away at their value proposition as customers don't understand why their favorite music isn't available. Whitesmith Entertainment is a full service management and consultancy company based in New York and Los Angeles, spanning the music, comedy and sports industries. Founded in 2008 by Emily White and Keri Smith Esguia, Whitesmith’s roster includes Brendan Benson (of The Raconteurs), Sydney Wayser, The Hush Sound, GOLD MOTEL, The Big Sleep, Eric Burdon of The Animals, Urge Overkill, W. Kamau Bell, and two-time swimming Olympian and gold medalist, Anthony Ervin. In 2012 White launched Readymade Records & Publishing with Benson as a release platform for his music as well his production projects. Over the past year Readymade has been the home for music from Young Hines, Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons, The Lost Brothers, Eric Burdon & The Greenhornes and is currently prepping the 2013 release of The Howling Brothers. Additionally, White sits on the board of open-source music technology non-profit, CASH Music.
Jon Maples oversees the creation and improvement of the Rhapsody product and service. Jon's career spans over 20 years, and includes developing digital audiences, building great user experiences and audience development. Under Maples' direction, Rhapsody products have driven significant business growth and increased customer engagement by building an award-winning suite of mobile apps.
Jon brings a deep journalism background to Rhapsody, where he also oversees the company's editorial practice. Previously, Jon managed online properties for the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Netscape and Real Networks. He was a senior writer and managing editor at Red Herring covering digital media with an emphasis on music, at the time the magazine was the tech industry zeitgeist.
