This core conversation will discuss the many ways that journalists and news companies are using social media to engage with an audience and how those interactions can improve the journalism being done today.


Mandy Jenkins Interactives Editor Digital First Media

Mandy Jenkins is the Interactives Editor for Digital First Media, where she oversees national data and video strategy across the company's more than 75 daily news sites. She was previously Social News Editor for politics at The Huffington Post, and coordinated the company's citizen journalism program, OfftheBus. Mandy was formerly the social media editor for Washington, D.C. local news startup TBD and the Cincinnati Enquirer. She blogs about news and social media at and teaches part-time at Georgetown University.

Mark Briggs Dir of Digital Media PunkRadioCast/Fork Radio Inc

Author of three books about journalism and technology and director of digital media for King 5 Television in Seattle and served as a Ford Fellow in Entrepreneurial Journalism at The Poynter Institute.

As part of his mission to help journalists transform in the digital age and leverage the power of digital/social/mobile media, Mark has served as a speaker, trainer and consultant for various projects around the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. He spoke at SXSW Interactive in Austin in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In May 2010 he was named one of 20 Journalists to Follow by Quill, the magazine of the Society of Professional Journalists.
