Design Unicorns: Turning Myth into Reality
Empathic. Collaborative. Constructive. Fast. These are just some of the words that today’s hiring managers use to describe the new New Hire. As our mediums change, so do our expectations for interactive designers. As screens shrink, our expectations for design unicorns grow.
There is an increasing need for design professionals, however, universities are not producing the types of graduates that industry can easily hire. The paradox is that there’s a gap in what’s currently taught at universities and the practical needs of industry.
Based on our research with many hiring design managers from across the United States, this practical session will focus on:
• Current marketplace needs
• Current educational trends
• How to change to make sure we meet the demand of this new, expanding marketplace
We can create the next generation of design professionals by collaborating with industry and education. In fact, the future of our discipline depends on it.
