Mara Tekach

Mara Tekach is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Career Minister. She was the Coordinator for Cuban Affairs at the Department of State, following a tour as the top U.S. diplomat in Cuba, where she served as Chargé d’Affaires at U.S. Embassy Havana, 2018-2020. From 2016-2018 she was Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Public Diplomacy for the Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. Prior to that, she was the DAS for Professional and Cultural Exchanges at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). Previous tours include Minister Counselor for Public Affairs at U.S. Embassy Mexico City; Deputy Director of Communications at the United States Mission to the United Nations in New York; Press Attaché in Buenos Aires.
