Laney Hawes

Laney is a mom to four school aged kids, co-director for the Texas Freedom to Read Project, and owns her own consulting business specializing in rights and permissions for authors. She's been very active in her community pushing back against the hyper-partisan takeover of her district's school board and she believes deeply the potential for public education to be the great equalizer and the bedrock of communities. In her free time, Laney teaches fitness at the YMCA, serves on three PTA boards, and loves the outdoors. You can find her on X as @laneyhawes where she fights for the freedom to read, calls out her Super PAC funded school board, and was recently referred to as, "not just a mom, a mouthy activist."
