Stop Online Violence Against Women

Shireen is an early web pioneer, social strategist, and founder of the D.C.-based non-profit Digital Sisters/as which was the first organization to focus on digital media technology & online access for women and girls of color. Shireen was born and raised in the projects of New York City, playing video games before they could be played on televisions and designing BBS boards and gopher sites prior to the Web going world wide. As a gamer I created TechnoDemic, a multimedia competition to help youth learn technology and programming terms. She also founded the first women of color web management firm in the early 90's, which managed sites like PoliticallyBlack.com prior to it's sale and incorporation into what's known today as Politico.com. As an author she has written “Gaining Daily Access to Science and Technology” in the book 50 Ways to Improve Women’s Lives and “Access to Technology: Race, Gender, Class Bias" in the publication The Scholar and Feminist Online.
