Shifting the Diversity Dial in Dance Music

Date TBA

Diversity and inclusivity in dance music have become buzzwords in recent times, but the overwhelming majority of the world's highest paid DJs are still white males. Many seem to have forgotten that the culture we cherish and celebrate was originally created by marginalized groups as a form of self expression, tolerance and acceptance. Mixmag and the Smirnoff Sound Collective are working to raise awareness and take positive action to address this situation through a mentorship program to help artists from under-represented backgrounds and communities. This panel focuses on the experience of female artists, and their perception in the media and amongst dance music fans.

Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.
