Diversional Therapy: How VR Transforms Illness

Mar 13, 2017

3:30pm – 4:30pm CT

From burn victims reporting 50% less pain when immersed in a virtual arctic environment to patients with dementia who perk up when shown a realm filled with butterflies, diversional therapy has the ability to transform the experience of illness. An academy-award winning special effects artist and a physician with experience in caring for the most fragile patients will take you on a tour of the most current virtual therapies with stops to experience virtual moments, discuss the scientific evidence, relate stories from their own experience with patients in nursing homes and critically look at the future of VR in healthcare.
