Racing Climate Change to Cure Neglected Diseases

Mar 12, 2017

5:00pm – 6:00pm CT

Warming oceans have caused mass coral devastation, threatening global food supplies, valuable tourist industries and coastline communities. But an untold tale is how these changes threaten a treasure trove of potential life-saving medicines found in sponges, algae and other organisms. Entrepreneur Eduardo Esquenazi, PhD, discusses what to expect from marine-inspired therapeutics and how his company Sirenas LLC is racing to identify drugs from around the globe for malaria, tuberculosis and even cancer. He is joined by environmental advocate Fabien Cousteau, Founder of the Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center, who will share what can be done to help preserve the ocean to protect human health.
