Beto Lopez is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Design Institute for Health, a joint venture of the Dell Medical School and the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.

Beto, a designer by trade, brings over a decade’s worth of experience helping organizations of all types, in many different industries grow their business and culture through human centered design. Passionate about the mash-up of design thinking and systems thinking, Beto works at the intersection of design, business strategy and rapid prototyping to transform the way organizations work together and with others to create and deliver value to people.

Before founding the Design Institute for Health, Beto worked at IDEO, a globally renowned design and innovation consultancy. There he held roles as Senior Product Designer, Project Lead, Design for Sustainability Global Director, and most recently, as Global Lead of Systems Design.

Dr. Mini Kahlon turns vision into strategies to guide the Dell Medical School in achieving its mission in education, research and clinical innovation. Mini builds the ecosystem of partners necessary to achieve Dell Medical School’s goals, which include establishing a new model for academic medicine in advancing the health of a region. Mini works with public, private and academic partners across Austin and the surrounding area to build a model healthy city and advance health-related innovation.

Prior to joining the medical school, Mini was Executive Director and Chief Information Officer for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). With cumulative funding of more than $200 million, CTSI at UCSF is one of the largest awardees of the Clinical & Translational Science Awards (CTSA) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The institute functioned as an innovation arm of UCSF.
