Reinventing the Biopic - what’s the next step?

Saturday, March 12
12:30PM - 1:30PM

Austin Convention Center
Room 17B
531 E 4th St

The last few years have seen increasingly innovative ways of approaching the biography. Documentaries such as Amy have shown how user generated footage has opened up more intimate, visceral ways of understanding a subject, while innovative approaches like Nick Cave’s 20 000 Days on Earth has opened the door to creative collaborations with the subjects themselves. But many films fall back on a chronological, archive-contributor formula. How can the biographical film evolve? What new approaches and technological innovations can be applied to offer fresh insights into individuals whose lives may seem familiar? And how can we make space for the non-celebrity biography?
