Frederick Soo is CTO and co-founder of NAUTO, Inc., a transportation and machine-learning startup based out of Palo Alto, CA. NAUTO is bringing to market the connected camera for professional drivers. NAUTO's computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies will help fleets and drivers reduce liability, improve safety, and operate faster and more efficiently.

Prior to joining NAUTO Frederick was author of The Positive Rail, a blog about embedded systems prototyping, design and taking the step from maker to builder and bringing hardware products to market.

Frederick earned his MA/BA in Biology from Harvard University, his Ph.D. in Biophysics from Stanford University, and conducted research at University of Washington and Princeton University in neurophysiology and computational neuroscience.

He transitioned to industry via McKinsey & Co, where he worked on R&D portfolio management, M&A pipelines and advanced technology business development for several Fortune 100 companies.

Shad Laws joined Renault in Silicon Valley as an Innovation Project Manager in 2013. He is currently leading Renault's autonomous driving efforts in California, collaborating with academic labs, working with startups, and piloting their prototype vehicle. He has a background in engineering, design, startups, and software development. He completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University researching vehicle dynamics and control. For this work, he developed both theoretical simulations and full-scale prototypes, which he continued at LIVIC in France after graduation. Before this, he received a MS from Stanford University and a BS from Northwestern University, both in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on design. In his spare time, his hobbies transform him into an avid gear head, an open-source coder, a jazz musician, a seasoned traveler, and a storied photographer.
