3D Imaging in a Swarm of Drones
Friday, March 11
5:00PM - 6:00PM
Palmer Events Center
900 Barton Springs Rd
An intelligent swarm of flying drones can be applied to solve 3D modeling. We will demonstrate a method for building a swarm of intelligent drones that can can coordinate together to create high definition / high quality 3D models of structures, sculpture, and geographic features. Attendees will be introduced to the software and methods for creating 3D models using still camera imagery and the intelligent swarm of drones used to capture the images. We will discuss the future and need of high quality modeling in nature and finish with a discussion on where to go next.
We are brilliant! We can do anything! Science!

It all started with a VCR remote. It was working just fine, but the unknown inner mechanisms of this magical wand-like gadget were just too much to let another minute pass without uncovering what mystery lay inside. Needless to say, the remote never did work again. That innocent dismantling, however, was the first step on a journey that would lead to a lifelong fascination with computing, electronics, machines, and gadgetry.
I grew up in the 1980's. Cassette players, new wave, NASA shuttle launches, and 8-bit video games. These were the building blocks of wonder and excitement that influenced me to explore a career in Information Technology and collect a handful of hobbies that include, but are not limited to: gaming, motorcycles, computers, photography, and music. I've had the fortune of just over a dozen years of employ in the IT field, everything from tier 1 support to enterprise system integration to system administration at one of the best supercomputing centers in the world. I've struggled with coding a hangman game in ATARI Basic to easily deploying Deep Dream iPython notebooks in Docker. I've built an overclocked gaming PC and rebuilt a Honda CB350. I can use a terminal window and a MIG welder. While the technology around me changes and evolves, my love for it stays rock steady.Hide the rest
