Sharing the Internet of Things
Smart devices don’t play nicely with each other, and the internet of things has not lived up to its promise. To do so, it must join the sharing economy. What should it look like when things talk to things? The best we have so far are proprietary systems that try to (poorly) patch different things together. A protocol is needed. In the world of the sharing economy, preferences should not be tied to physical objects. Someday, you might get into a Zipcar and find the seat adjusted, and then walk into an already-unlocked Airbnb home to find our Netflix account loaded and the temperature to your liking. In this session we’ll consider what happens once the things we own are truly shareable.
