This Is Every Song I Heard, For An Entire Year
Over the course of a day, studies say an average person will hear nearly four hours of music. While impressive on its own, there is so much more to be gleaned in quantifying our music listening experience beyond a number. I set out to get a more accurate account of my music listening. For an entire year I logged every single song I heard as well as several bits of contextual data tied to each. Streamed songs, radio, background music, ambient songs and anywhere else music is found. In this session, we will explore the data, patterns and insights discovered in a series of in-depth data visualizations. We will also look at the challenges versus value of extracting a complex personal data set.
