Originally from Charlottesville, VA, Carl Anderson has quickly become an answer to the cries for honest Nashvillian craftsmanship. His adept folksy songwriting and never-fail sense of humor took him from a local Charlottesville festival staple to a full-time Tennessee troubadour. His earnest lyrics, sincere, rich vocals and simple acoustic guitar find him trailing a long wake of critical praise.

While he had depth of soul on his 2011 debut album, Wolftown, he shows real soul on his 2015 release Risk of Loss. A more mature and experienced Anderson brings greater perspective to this record, not only one of intelligent lyrical observation that we have come to know but a broadening and growth apparent in the arrangements. However, it is not just the brass he brought in to flesh out the sound but rather the rare-back-and-let-it-go attitude on songs like the opener, 'Side of the Mountain.' It is the almost Everly Brothers approach to 'Different Darkness.' It is the gospel influence heard on 'Hurricane Wind. His latest album, Risk of Loss, contains songs of pain and redemption.

Borrowing from a range of genres such as soul, Americana, and blues, Anderson has created an album that pays homage to time-honored traditions without ever getting mired in them. It is authentic, real, and above all, absorbing.
