Major Erik Johnson enlisted in the Army in 1996. As a young Private, while

stationed in Germany, he was involved in a car accident where he sustained

second and third degree burns to over 20% of his body, most of which were on his arms and hands. He decided to become an Occupational Therapist because of the influence from the OT that treated his burns. The Army sent him to school where he studied Occupational Therapy from 2000 to 2005, earning his Masters of Science in OT from the University of Central Arkansas. Licensed in early 2006, he spent his first two years as an OT at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA where he worked in behavioral health, ergonomics, inpatient rehab, and eventually specializing in Upper Extremity Orthopedics. While there, he was credentialed to be a Neuromusculoskeletal Upper Extremity Evaluator.

Leslie leads the Citizen Science program at Cancer Research UK, the second largest funder of cancer research in the world. The world-leading Citizen Science program puts research data in the hands of the public through compelling apps and mobile games, allowing people all over the world to contribute directly to cancer research through game play. The Citizen Science program has launched five pioneering projects to date, including Genes in Space, the first mobile game to analyze real cancer data, and the International Emmy award-winning Reverse The Odds. To date, the program has engaged over half a million participants around the world and has provided over 11 million data sample classifications for researchers on a number of major studies.

Leslie spent nearly two years taking care of her mother during cancer treatment and recovery, and is passionate about empowering patients, carers and members of the public to get involved with their own care and the wider research being done to fight the disease.

Prior to working on the Citizen Science program, Leslie led on digital and organization-wide improvement projects at Ingeus, a leading welfare-to-work and human services company in the UK. While there, her focus was on empowering people through technology, launching a staff innovation program and portal, and an interactive portal to engage and inspire long-term unemployed in their job search through useful tools and compelling content and activities.

She also has a strong interest in global health and development issues, and spent some time in Serra Leone in 2015, helping the National Director for Non-Communicable Diseases develop an annual plan for the post Ebola period.

Leslie is from California and lives in London with her husband.
