The End of the Work-More Culture?

Saturday, March 12
3:30PM - 4:30PM

JW Marriott
Salon 6
110 E 2nd St

As millennials and young GenXer’s increasingly refuse to choose between long hours and their personal passions or families, is the end of the work-more-if-you-want-to-get-ahead culture in sight? Even at some startups, like Disrupto (now Able), long hours are eschewed in favor of 30-hour workweeks and core office hours. It’s not about women with families. The idea is that employees who have the freedom to pursue outside interests are happier, more focused when they’re working and fiercely loyal. There’s some growing evidence that this might be more than just a passing fad or a way to lure smart employees. BBC.com Culture Editor Christian Blauvelt discusses the trend and its staying power.
