He excels at combining distinct lanes to achieve sounds only he can deliver; he says he's prepared to tackle every type of music with openness and creativity.
City’s free spirit and entertaining personality are mirrored in his music through playful, unorthodox song structure and lyrics. He embraces new sounds that allow him to utilize his dynamic vocal range from full-voice to almost-whispers. To him, it's all about the mood:
“I’m not afraid to step outside the box. I see music as therapy for all times in your life, so we need to have fun. We can’t all rap about gang banging," says City.
In just a few short years, City has created a catalog rivaled by many. After signing with On Dek Entertainment in February 2014, his first single, “Thirsty Thursday” was released to wide support nationwide. His fun-loving vibe caught the attention of many among the local and regional college music circuit, with the anthem becoming a college party staple.
City is morphing into a musical powerhouse, as he has learned to write, perform, and engineer his own tracks. His secret weapon is his keen ear for an offbeat, vibe-y sound, mixed with trap-style beats infused with synths. While most other rappers credit legends within the genre as their influencers, City acknowledges the underrated, songstress-emcee Lauryn Hill for inspiring his love of Hip-Hop.
Late 2014 found City releasing his "T.I.N.A. (This Is Notta Album)" project to high anticipation among the region's tastemakers, fans, and music aficionados. With its unique knocks and twists, and his enthusiasm behind the album, City knows the best is yet to come.
