American singer and multi-instrumentalist Laura Burhenn named her band The Mynabirds partly as a nod to James Joyce, and partly a tribute to Neil Young’s Motown period (The Mynah Birds, with band mate Rick James). Her first and second albums, 2010’s What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood and 2012's GENERALS, both produced by Richard Swift, were released by Saddle Creek to critical acclaim. Her newest album, Lovers Know, is a brave step into gauzy glass pop territory, and is currently being readied for a 2015 release.
