Transportation was the foundation of the move from the first to second Industrial Revolution. Increasing adoption of steam and gas engine technologies led to even greater innovation and adoption of technology across the train, boat, ship and automotive industries. Technology adoption in cars has continued since then with almost every major technology finding its way into vehicles. With the recent advances in sensor, software, communication and audio/video technologies, this adoption is accelerating at a rapid pace. In the next 50 years, self-driving cars, self-navigating traffic systems and transport in three dimensions with flying cars are all in realm of reality. Optical fiber communication, wireless communication, self-diagnostics, self-repair and even self-sizing adjustment (aka transformers) are entering the picture. In this session, leaders from the automotive industry will discuss how they see the future trends and what their companies are doing to take advantage of these trends.
