Learning to Work in the Future
Based on his experience as IDEO's planetary futurist-in-residence, Alex Steffen (co-founder of Worldchanging and author of Carbon Zero) shares his strategies for how to keep fluent in the use new ideas and skills when the pace of change keeps increasing.
His core message is that keeping up is not something that comes from frantic grasping at new information, but from developing a personal framework for inquiry over time; that we keep our capacity for foresight fresh by building a practice of focused learning, not through feed surfing, trend spotting or prediction chasing. And that inquiry, that learning… well, that can be taught; that is something we can design for ourselves.
If your success and creativity are based in part on your ability to stay current and grow new skills, this is a talk you need to see.
