Reality Check: 20 Years of the Digital Economy
The 20th Anniversary Edition of Don Tapscott’s seminal book The Digital Economy has just been released. In this talk Tapscott reviews what has actually happened in the last 20 years and discusses the path forward. He argues that while some of the promise of the digital revolution has been achieved there are many problems looming and storm warnings of convulsive conflict over issues ranging from the ownership of data and the distribution of economic benefits to the nature of the technology itself. There is a crisis of leadership emerging as old institutions and power structures are fighting change and even distorting the digital economy for their narrow benefit. It’s time for a rethink! Don Tapscott is ranked as one of the world’s top 5 business thinkers according to the definitive list Thinkers50. He is the author or co-author of 15 widely read books about new media in business and society including Paradigm Shift, Wikinomics and Grown Up Digital.
