Storytelling Superheroes
Compelling storytelling builds powerful and lasting connections with audiences. Graphic memoirist Alison Bechdel and documentary filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer, both 2014 MacArthur Fellows, explore meaningful storytelling across diverse and emerging platforms. Their work stretches the conventions of documentary forms through explorations of contemporary subjects and characters. Joining them is Maria Hinojosa, a broadcast journalist who has long practiced multimedia storytelling. Through multi-layered works all three investigate social, psychological, and emotional dimensions of transformational events, weaving sophisticated narratives of words and images. Panelists will discuss their unique perspectives and methods for producing an authentic story. Come away with new insight into the power of story.
