What we think of as the visual image and visual storytelling is rapidly evolving driven by advances in camera technology and an explosion of smartphone apps. From SnapChat and Vine and the hyper ephemeral, to visual social networks like Instagram and EyeEm, to visual storytelling apps like Exposure.co and Storehouse, to PhotoPedia with its intent to archive and create a more permanent visual record, not a week passes without the emergence of a new experiment in visual expression and storytelling. Yet while what it means to be a photo and a video is evolving at a rapid clip, the camera is still stuck back in the relative stone ages. Hans Peter will discuss the future of the camera and whether the future will be all smartphones, or if and why the internet of things could perhaps create a renaissance for “the camera"?
