Join web and mobile experts in an all day Hackathon for Social Good, where programmers and designers work collaboratively to build programs and applications for awesome non-profit organizations. Hackathons begins with short presentations by non-profit representatives, then participants break up into teams to plan, design and build a website or application in less than eight hours. Unnerving, challenging and fast-paced? You bet. A mad adrenaline rush? Of course. And it’s always for a great cause.
The workshop will begin with an overview on how to run a successful Hackathon for Social Good, then go through each of the phases, including ideation, planning, design and build process, presentations and project pitches, and judging of the projects. This year's Hackathon for Social Good at SXSW will benefit the Austin Public Library.
Part 1:
Introduction / How to run a successful Hackathon for Social Good
Establishing Teams and Roles
Balance of designers, programmers, strategists and at least one project manager
Assess team member experience and tools on hand
Note: Don’t try to learn a new tool or application
Assign documentation leads for each team (photos, illustrations and project artifacts)
