In 1950, there were 205 million people over 60 in the world; today, close to 900 million. The older part of the population is growing faster than the total population. And living longer. The Gray Tsunami hits the shore. Time to reconsider everything we know about aging.
What to do with these extra decades modern society has given us? Can we design and build something remarkable? Can we make these years profitable for society? Interesting? Even enviable?
Using a mix of presentation and exercises this session, led by an IDEO designer, will invite the audience to think, experience and, hopefully, further develop some provocative design concepts for the aging population and for those who plan to age one day. It is a call to arms. Starting with a view of the most important challenges in aging, we will sketch design principles for aging and illustrate them with examples of ageless and age-appropriate designs, showcasing examples of IDEO’s Designs On Aging and other sources.
