Emily May is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of hollaback!

When feminist icon Gloria Steinem was asked “What women today inspire you and make you feel that the movement continues?” Her response was, “Emily May of Hollaback! who has empowered women in the street, literally.” Emily is a leader in the anti-street harassment movement. In 2005, at the age of 24, she co-founded Hollaback! (iHollaback.org) in New York City, and in 2010 she became the first full-time executive director. Hollaback!’s mission is to give women and LGBTQ folks an empowered response to street harassment, and ultimately, to end it.

In 2014, Emily was named an Ashoka Fellow for her pioneering work in the field of social entrepreneurship. She has won eleven awards for her work ending street harassment. Emily was also named an Ashoka ChangemakHER, a “Hero Among Us” by People Magazine, and one of Jezebel’s 25 kick-ass women.

Rinku Sen is the President and ED of Race Forward: The Center for Racial Justice Innovation and the Publisher of the award-winning news site Colorlines. Race Forward brings systemic analysis and an innovative approach to complex race issues. A visionary and a pragmatist, Rinku's one of the leading voices in the racial justice movement, building upon the legacy of civil rights by transforming the way we talk about race, from something that is individual, intentional, and overt to something that is systemic, unconscious, and hidden. Prior to her work at Race Forward, Rinku served in leadership roles for over a decade at the revolutionary Center for Third World Organizing, where she trained new organizers of color and crafted public policy campaigns. Rinku's cutting edge book Stir it Up, read widely by community organizers and taught on campuses across the country, theorizes a model of community organizing that integrates a political analysis of gender, class, poverty, and sexuality.
