Web Influence on the Future of Music Documentaries

Tuesday, March 17
3:30PM - 4:30PM

Austin Convention Center
Room 15
Austin Convention Center

Music documentary producers from mainstream, independent and established networks discuss the future role of music documentaries and how internet access to artists has changed storytelling around musicians. With the omnipresence of YouTube and social media, historic moments, memorable events, concert scenes and interviews are readily available for audiences to consume. Also, the rise of on-demand internet streaming services like Netflix uncovers opportunities for more platforms to create music documentaries than ever before. Panelists will explore how this ubiquitous availability of video and content can help drive artist interest or hurt storytelling, and what challenges this poses when creating films that will resonate with audiences of mainstream artists versus up-and-coming talent.
