VHS: Never Forget
In the past few years, an unexpectedly massive VHS revival has bubbled forth from the swamps of nostalgia. Multiple VHS documentaries and brand new VHS-only distribution companies have proven that the once-dead format has plenty of life in it. In the US alone, there are now over a dozen annual VHS-only conventions held, drawing crowds of hundreds—and even thousands—of devotees. Even respectable platforms like The New York Times have declared VHS to be "the new vinyl." This presentation will cover the cultural impossibility of VHS collectors, obsessives, distributors and even detractors in an effort to explain the enduring mystique of the first home video format.
