The value of revenues from performance rights is increasing steadily, and shows no sign of declining. Colin Rushing is responsible for overseeing legal proceedings and handling the regulatory and legal issues necessary for SoundExchange’s daily operations. Before joining SoundExchange, Colin was an attorney at WilmerHale in Washington, D.C., where his focus was intellectual property and media law. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from James Madison University and his Juris Doctor from the University Of Virginia School Of Law. After graduating from law school, Colin clerked for The Honorable T.S. Ellis III on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Jim Mahoney is Vice President of the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM; www.a2im.org) a non-profit trade organization representing the rights and interests of U.S. independent music companies. He has spent 20 years working in senior management capacities entirely within the independent music sector. Prior to joining A2IM in 2007, Mahoney served a seven year stint as president of Fat Beats, a tastemaker hip-hop company that operated a music label, a wholesale distribution company, and several retail locations. Earlier in his career, Mahoney held posts as senior director of urban product development at Roadrunner Records and national director of marketing and promotions at Profile Records.

In his role he oversees digital sales and new business development for one of the largest independently owned music entertainment companies in North America. Over the last five years, Mathew has spearheaded the company’s digital retail growth and has played a key role in expanding new revenue streams.
Mathew was previously with Sony Music where he was a senior financial analyst for the RCA Music Group.
