Investigative Reporting in the Digital Age
Award-winning investigative sports journalists Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports and Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated will discuss how the digital age has transformed their roles as hell-raisers, um, hard-nosed reporters conducting investigations into sports wrongdoing, including any number of major college football programs. What's changed? Everything--and for the better storytelling. Charles and Pete will discuss how the Internet provides valuable leads, how smart phones can used as a powerful journalist tool and why infographics are only scratching the surface of investigative journalism. They will discuss the value of strong video presence (and how to compete with TV networks). And they will explain why making calls never gets old when it comes to getting results, but why texts and emails have their place. Come and ask whatever you have wondered about Yahoo and SI has landed so many big stories about college football scandals.
This session is part of the brand new SXsports programming at SXSW 2014.
