Seed Accelerators Rankings Release
Seed accelerators (such as YCombinator, Techstars) have recently received much attention both in the US and across the globe. While accelerators appear to be proliferating quickly, little is known regarding the value of these programs; how to define accelerator programs; and the importance of the various aspects of these programs to the ultimate success of their graduates.
Professor Yael Hochberg of MIT and Rice University and Managing Director of the Seed Accelerator Rankings Project will release the 2013 Accelerator Rankings and present key aggregate statistics on accelerators and accelerator graduates in the US. Prof. Hochberg will also discuss the distinction between accelerators and other types of entities, such as incubators, angel networks, and seed funds. The session will end with a discussion of emerging trends in the ecosystem.

Yael Hochberg is an Associate Professor of Finance and Entrepreneurship at Rice University and Visiting Associate Professor at MIT's Sloan School of Management. Hochberg is the Managing Director of the annual Seed Accelerator Rankings project. She is a an established expert on entrepreneurship, innovation, and the financing of entrepreneurial activity, particularly seed accelerators and the venture capital industry. In addition to her doctorate from Stanford GSB, she holds an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and a masters degree in Economics from Stanford University. Hochberg’s research has been published in top tier journals and media outlets and has been presented at numerous universities, conferences and and governmental bodies around the world. Prior to MIT and Rice, Hochberg was on the faculty at the Kellogg School of Management and at Cornell U., and previously was employed in the tech industry.
