Student Startup Madness Finals & Championship
Student Startup Madness (SSM) is the only nationwide tournament for college student digital media startups, culminating with the “Entrepreneurial Eight” national finals at SXSW. This year’s tournament was open to student startups from colleges across America with enrollment beginning in August 2013. The first two rounds of competition are conducted online, starting with a field of 64, then reducing to 32 semi-finalists. The tournament is promoted by regional host universities: Bucknell University, Georgia State University, Michigan State University, St. Louis University, Syracuse University, and The University of Texas at Austin. At SXSW 2014, the SSM Finals begin when the Entrepreneurial Eight pitch to a panel of well-known investors and entrepreneurs (including Pinterest’s first angel investor, head of a major accelerator program, a venture social medialite and more), and ends with the Championship Grill Session and the crowning of the new SSM National Champion.
