What does it mean to collect Art when digital technology has made the cost of copying zero? Is scarcity obsolete? As a creator, how do you assert authenticity when your work can be copied and transmitted thousands of times without you even knowing? How is the dynamic between creators and consumers changed with the advent of social media, and what new opportunities exist to remediate this relationship?

This talk is about designing a marketplace and platform predicated on artificial scarcity. Launched in the summer of 2012, NeonMob is attempting to preserve the inherit value of original artwork by enabling a new generation of mobile art collectors to follow, collect, and patronize emerging creators supported by a sophisticated trading system.

I'll dive deep into what we've learned designing the trading system, game mechanics, and how we've worked with creators and collectors, and discuss why these efforts are critical to the future of art and digital collectibles.
