Produce Like Picasso: Mastering Design Delivery

Pablo Picasso was a prolific artist. He produced over 150,000 pieces of art, which equates to delivering seven finished pieces of art each day of his career. Picasso also delivered in different mediums: paintings, sculptures, ceramics, architecture, and more. What was Picasso’s mindset? What methods did he use? How did Picasso move from concept to production so quickly?
In this talk, you will learn how to produce Picasso and avoid the pitfalls of production. We will review Picasso's production principles with examples from his life. By applying the principles of Picasso, designers can create more effectively and quickly.
NOTE: This is a follow-up to my 2013 SxSW presentation “Design Like DaVinci” where I focused on how designers could learn sketching secrets for early concepts, mock-ups, and wireframes. Where that presentation discussed “how to saturate a design space” with sketches, this presentation looks at “how to produce results from initial ideas.”

Brian Sullivan is the Usability Principal at the Sabre Human Factors Center. Brian is actively involved in the design and usability community--Founder of Big Design Conference, Chair of World Usability Day (2007-12), and President of DFW-UPA (2006-11). You can find Brian speaking on a variety of topics on design and usability. Brian has worked with AT&T, Burger King, American Airlines, SkyChefs, United Airlines, and Carter Blood Center. Brian lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife, son, and their cat (who runs the house). He is currently writing a book on how to do UX sketching.

J. Schuh has been doing animation and UX since 1996. He has owned his own company Toons-N-Design since 1998. In addition to being one of the founders of A Bunch of Short Guys and Industry Giants event, he also is a member of a number of community organizations including A Bunch of Short Guys, Dallas Producers Association and the Dallas User Experience Group. He has served on the planning committee and was chair of the Multimedia/ Film track of the Big Design 2013 conference.
