American Interior: 1 Story, 4 Formats: 3 Speakers

Interspersing conversation with lo-fi power point presentations and live music performance; three protagonists responsible for bringing American Interior to our screens, stereos, bookshelves and tablets will bring you the tale of John Evans on his search for a mysterious tribe of Welsh-speaking Native American Indians in 1792.

In the summer of 2012, over two hundred years later, Gruff Rhys – himself a distant relative of Evans - re- traced the explorer’s route through the heart of the continent by means of an “Investigative Concert Tour TM” - a series of solo gigs that saw him accompanied by little more than acoustic guitar, Power- Point presentation and a three-foot high felt avatar of John Evans.

Catryn Ramsut (ie ie Productions; producer), Nathan Hull (Penguin Books) and Gruff Rhys (musician) will bring you the tale while outlining how multiple rights holders (film, book, music and music publishers) came together to deliver this truly multi-platform project.

Catryn Ramasut is the founder of 'ie ie productions', a Cardiff-based production company she set up with her partner Gruff Rhys in 2006. Prior to this she worked in various roles within radio, television, print and advertising for BBC Radio 1, Marmalade Magazine and M&C Saatchi. She is currently in post-production on 'American Interior' a sequel to her award-winning debut film with Gruff Rhys 'Separado!' (2010) which will be out in 2014.

Gruff Rhys is a songwriter from Wales. He has released nine studio albums as a member of the legendary band Super Furry Animals, Three solo albums and a further two as a member of Neon Neon and has played concerts on every continent in the known world bar Antarctica. He has collaborated with bands and artists as diverse as Mogwai, Gorillaz, Sparklehorse, Dangermouse and David Lynch.

Rhys is currently working on a multi platform project, American Interior set for release in 2014 which will combine music, film, book and digital app in order to tell the unusual story of his relative John Evans, a farm hand who left Wales in 1792 to embark on an unimaginable journey to discover a lost tribe of Welsh speaking first nation Americans thought to be descendants of the mythical Prince Madog. Unwittingly in his wake he left a trail of chaos that had a profound effect on the history of America.
