It’s harder to get your work noticed now more than ever before. That’s why having a loyal audience that supports your endeavors has become crucial to success. Filmmakers Patrick Epino and Stephen Dypiangco (who work with PBS Digital Studios) share how they built their own media brand from scratch, using collaborations as a key strategy to growth and legitimacy. They discuss how they tapped their friends, contacts and creativity to establish the National Film Society, and they offer their tips on setting up successful ongoing collaborations.

Patrick Epino

Patrick is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker and digital content producer. After writing and directing his first feature film, Mr. Sadman, starring Scoot McNairy (Argo) and Tim Kang (The Mentalist), he co-founded the National Film Society, a new media studio and PBS web series. He's also co-creator of Awesome Asian Bad Guys, an action-comedy web series crowdfunded by over $54,000 raised on Kickstarter. Patrick is a graduate of the University of Chicago and earned his MFA in Cinema from San Francisco State University.

Stephen Dypiangco

National Film Society

Stephen is a filmmaker and co-founder of the National Film Society, a media company whose brainy and offbeat work has been featured by PBS, The Wall Street Journal, Filmmaker Magazine, Mashable, GigaOM and Indiewire. Stephen is an alum of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and NYU’s graduate film program.
