#sxsw #Takei

With a career spanning five decades, George Takei is known around the world for his founding role in the acclaimed television series Star Trek, in which he played Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the Starship Enterprise. Takei starred in three seasons (1966-69) of Star Trek and later reprised his iconic role in six theatrically released movies, spanning from the late 70s through the early 90s. Through the years, Takei’s influence has spread from the far reaches of the galaxy to the far reaches of the web. Takei is host of the new AARP-produced YouTube series, “Takei’s Take,” exploring technology trends and popular culture topics (www.youtube/takeistake). In 2012 Mashable.com reported that Takei was the #1 most-influential person on Facebook. Takei has more than six million likes on Facebook and also has more than one million followers on Twitter. Actor, online content curator and author, Takei penned, “Oh Myyy! There Goes the Internet" and “Lions and Tigers and Bears: The Internet Strikes Back.” He is starring in the Broadway-bound “Allegiance,” a new musical inspired by Takei’s childhood incarcerated in a Japanese American internment camp.
