imag8nineteen

Mat Hale, founder of imag8ninteen, has been creating compelling visuals and art in multimedia entertainment since 1996. His knowledge of the visual experience is vast and diverse. He has a keen sense of how and when to integrate that experience, with results that always exceed his clients’ expectations. Experience visuals, video art installations, art for pinball, and modern console game design all use Mat’s expertise in 2D design, 3D design and animation. Mat has been the video content designer for music talent and award shows such as Skrillex, Alice In Chains, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mary J. Blige, Justin Bieber and the BET Awards just to name a few. His most recent work includes Fall Out Boy, Austin Mahone, Emblem3 Yoshiki and Q-Dance.

With an entrepreneurial zeal, Mat also works on iconic projects that encourage thinking outside the box. In 2011, he collaborated with Skrillex for his Mothership Tour to deliver real-time video mapped 3D characters inside the Unreal 3 engine. Skrillex controlled these 3D characters wearing a motion capture suit during live performances, an industry first using this technology. In collaboration with film director Adam Shankman and production designer Jon Hutman, Mat consulted on video design and playback system, as well as created video content for the American Express Unstaged Mary J. Blige concert, broadcasted live on YouTube. For the 2012 Coachella Music Festival, Mat created several video content pieces for the festival’s largest funded art project to date, The Gateway, a video mapped art installation by Sensory Sync. For well-known artist Michael Christian, Mat created and wrangled content for the 2012 Electric Daisy Carnival’s sculpture Ooma, Christian’s first art installation to incorporate video projection.

Mat studied animation at Columbia College in Chicago, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was the art department lead for the video game Boom Blox, which was produced by Electronic Arts and selected for the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s show The Art of Video Games. Mat was featured in the independent movie The Gamer Age and continues to further his education at Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood. With a passion for exploring new mediums in art and motion graphics, Mat challenges his creativity everyday so that his perspective is fresh and he keeps the ideas flowing.
