As designers, we use UX and information architecture to take messy systems and turn them into organized, pleasant experiences.
I don't know about you, but my house (and life in general) could certainly use a bit of that.
It turns out that the user-centered design approach that we apply toward designing usable products is also a great approach to designing your living and working environments--and your time--to be the way you want them to be.
We have found that the process of designing products is extremely similar to the process a professional organizer goes through when organizing a home. We have teamed up with Alexis Duffy, a professional organizer with financial expertise, to explore how to design the lives we want and how to inspire our design work with the logic of organizing a physical space.

Alexis Duffy is owner and creator of All About Simplifying, a professional organizing firm choreographing clients’ financial and lifestyle puzzles -- and creating the pieces to fit. Honoring their personal narrative, she combines industry best practices, a degree in Accounting and her intuitive skills to guide clients out of over-whelm and in to the calm that comes from life lived in an organized space.

Aynne Valencia

Aynne Valencia is a design director & strategist possessing the unique skill set of consulting, design, advertising and product strategy. She specializes in new and next generation products work, R&D projects, planning, concepting, design and product strategy for new products and supporting services. Most recently Aynne was Associate Creative Director at R/GA San Francisco. Her past experience includes Microsoft as a Product Design Lead, AKQA as a Product Design Director and Design lead for the Cisco Consumer Products.

She has crafted breakthrough, award-winning cross-platform experiences for clients such as Microsoft, University of Phoenix, McDonalds, SunTrust Bank, Visa, Wachovia and Nike. She is a frequent speaker at conferences on experience design topics and is one of the local leaders for the San Francisco chapter of the IxDA (Interaction Design Association).

Jenny Tsai is senior user experience designer at Manilla. Jenny's background spans both mathematics and art, and she loves crafting user experiences through research, prototyping and user feedback.

Sandra Lloyd is Senior Information Architect at Tribal Worldwide, where she has designed experiences with clients like ExxonMobil, Alcon, H&R Block, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She enjoys nothing better than taking a big mess of information and turning it into a usable and delightful user experience. Before becoming a UX designer, she worked in the financial services industry, including commodities at Goldman Sachs. Her space used to be messy, but now it's a lot better.
