Can super short-format video build community and save the day?

Vine, Instagram Video, MixBit, Twitvid, Cinemagram. You may have seen them. Apps that let you create micro-format video and share it with your networks. They’re a huge hit with social media users, but can they be used for more than hijinks and goofiness? Join us for a hands-on workshop where we’ll explain this brand-new communication tool and how it can be used to bring about real positive impact.

After a discussion of the latest short-format video technology, and some of the best uses we’ve seen so far, we’ll get down to business. Using the amazing savvy that comes with a room full of SXSW attendees, we’ll set out to move the needle on a cause's mission through micro-format video.

You will be a case-study for creating real, positive change through film. Bring your thinking caps, creative juices and collaborative spirit to find out how teeny tiny video can have a great big impact.

I am Co-founder and Executive Director of Lights. Camera. Help., a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating positive change through film. I'm responsible for conceptualizing the organization's mission and working to see it through.

For the last 7 years I have worked as the Director of Digital Media for Ridgewood: Ingenious Communication Strategies. I lead the New Media Division. Focusing on nonprofit and public sector organizations, I work with my team to create integrated communications strategies that use the most current communications tools to reach their audience the right way.

Bill Simmon is the Director of Media Services at VCAM, a non-profit community media center in northern Vermont. VCAM promotes civic engagement and media literacy by providing access to, and training with, state of the art digital video tools and techniques.

Bill is an award winning filmmaker who also teaches film and video at Vermont colleges and writes professionally (including writing for SXSWorld Magazine).
