User experience (UX) and user interface (UI) designers face the challenge of designing software applications for different screen sizes. Most consumers have smartphones, tablets, and large Smart TVs that allow them to engage in both work and play. Some apps also interact between screens like iPad games that enable the tablet to be used as a controller while the game is displayed on a TV.
Software and equipment manufacturers want interfaces and experiences that work across all of these devices, screen sizes, and interactions. Furthermore, the experience of the consumers who use these products must be rich and consistent.
UX and UI designers can find a model for meeting these design challenges in Star Trek. The user interfaces aboard the Enterprise and the mobile devices used by its crew predicted the multi-screen and multi-device consumers of today. This session will teach UX and UI designers how to put the richness of the Star Trek experience into their work.
