Chaka Mpeanaji (formerly known as Jbro) and Tiger Lily are an award-winning husband-wife hip hop duo that operates from a boundless space and time. Their music and work, crafted from the funk, the SOURCE, and the gods of Hip Hop, is ready to take everyone it touches into a more powerful part of themselves.

Being as Fly & Fresh as possible are also always two parts of the equation the duo never forgets. Therefore, RAS doesn’t leave anything behind as they send themselves and their audiences into new portals of light and life. The name says it all. Resisting the prevalent and consistent storm of misogynistic, materialistic, egoistic music labeled as rap music today, RAS has carved their own niche in Austin in just over two years.

‘We came here [to Austin] with a purpose,’ says Chaka Mpeanaji. ‘We want to be considered amongst the best musical offerings in the city known for its live music scene. Whether it’s rock, punk, dance, dubstep, electronic, we feel that we can take the stage with the best in Austin, and the world, and hold our own fully.’

‘’We have already performed with many legends, including Rakim, KRS ONE, and Melle Mel. Each time, they teach us so much about the craft of emceeing. It’s a wonderful experience to see such talent. We hold ourselves to their level of artistic achievement and excellence,’ adds Tiger Lily enhusiastically.

Aside from headlining many shows throughout the country, this dynamic duo has opened for national acts, including: KRS-ONE, K’NAAN, DEAD PREZ, SAIGON, ANTIBALAS, MOS DEF, NAS, DAMIAN MARLEY, KID SISTER, WU-TANG CLAN, RAEKWON, TALIB KWELI and SLICK RICK.
