Social Media—Facebook, Twitter, blogs—have united the world like never before, enabling connectivity across time and place. Yet despite these assumed benefits of increased communication, research suggests that we have never been lonelier or more anxious, impacting our physical and mental health.
Is Social Media making us sick? We conducted a quantitative study to better understand the implications on our health, the Social Media impact our real-world social networks and experiences, and how Social Media consumption patterns may impact our feelings of loneliness or depression.

Presenters
Bekah Lockner has over 9 years of experience in advertising, public relations and the digital industries, with a focus on Social Media for the past 6 years. As manager of Social Marketing at AbelsonTaylor, she oversees and provides guidance on all Social Media projects, including social content strategy, social technology, advocacy building, and platform management. Prior to her time at AbelsonTaylor, Bekah was responsible for the Social Media strategy and management of a variety of brands including Gatorade, Allstate Foundation, ConAgra Foods, Microsoft, and Weight Watchers. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in communication studies and a Master of Arts in advertising from the University of Texas at Austin.
Courtney Miller joined Abelson Taylor in 2008 and has over 11 years of advertising experience. For over 4 years, Courtney’s planning experience has spanned professional and direct-to-patient/consumer promotion. Since joining Abelson Taylor, Courtney has been the lead planner on accounts such as Similac infant formula and prenatal care, Latuda for cognitive mental health, PediaSure nutritionals, Pedialyte, an oral electrolyte solution for children, and Prevena, a medical device for woman having C-sections. Prior to joining Abelson Taylor, Courtney was a Planner at DraftFCB where her experience includes alli weight loss, USPS, and Burger King. She holds a BA in Business Administration, Marketing & Consumer Behavior with a minor in Spanish. Courtney is also trained in the theory & practice of focus group moderating from the Riva Institute.
