What began as a group of friends with common interests in music evolved naturally into the current configuration that is Don Chani. The lead singer, Mark Shaddock, spent time in Jamaica as a teenager absorbing the music and culture that is so strongly associated with the island nation. After meeting Erick Bohorquez (lead guitar, vocals), Oney, and Jacob Benenate (drums), they soon fused their musical styles with the decidedly reggae oriented drumming style of Dr. Dubbist and latin influences of Erick Bohorquez. As Don Chani grew to encompass a larger number of members, their warm organic sound was raised to new levels with the addition of keyboardist Matt Jacobs, rhythm guitarist Mike Franklin, bassist Nico Sanchez, and third singer Chris Nerren. Don Chani’s most recent addition to the band is drummer Johnny Radelat. Drawing from an era that many consider to be reggae’s golden age, the late 60s through the late 70s, and the latin influences of two of its members, Don Chani has carved out a unique sound unmatched by any of its contemporary counterparts.Don Chani has shared the stage with reggae greats such as The Wailers, The Skatalites, Culture, Eek A Mouse, Luciano, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, The Itals, Yellowman, Sister Carol, The Wailing Souls, Morgan Heritage, Pato Banton, The Melodians, The Mighty Diamonds, Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars, Kenyatta Hill, Isreal Vibration, and The Meditations. Don Chani has also shared the stage with Bob Schneider, The Roots, Mishka, and Cas Haley (America’s Got Talent).
