Hailing from Winnipeg and Montreal, Chic Gamine’s wall-of-sound harmonies and hip-shaking beats could be straight out of Motown, before you throw in the curveball of French pop and four rotating lead-singers. By all the laws of the music business, this group is like the unicorn – it probably shouldn’t exist, yet, here it is - nostalgia-inspired but with a fresh new sound – a group that artfully hops from rhythm and blues, nouveau-pop to vintage soul – the mix is indescribable, but unbearably tasty.
Formed in 2007, Chic Gamine has worked as a completely independent band from day one. Their self-titled Canadian debut won the 2009 Juno Award for Best Roots Album of the Year, and their sophomore release, City City, received a second Juno nomination in the same category. After touring coast to coast across North America in 2011, Chic Gamine is now set to release their first official U.S. debut, due in early 2012.
