Gold & Youth

#sxsw #Gold&Youth

Formed in Victoria BC, Canada, in 2009 and now settled in Vancouver, Gold & Youth (formerly known as The Racoons) have developed their craft on a considerable number of stages. Musically, Gold & Youth blend synthetic and organic textures. Sequenced bass and programmed drum loops are layered against the sound of a live band, creating a density one might not expect from a three-piece. Danceable, but you could a rock out if you want to. Also: they write a lot of hooks.

They've toured across Canada with The Von Bondies, as well as making festival appearances at Festival Music House (Toronto), Big Time Out (Cumberland), Olio (Vancouver), Deraylor (Whistler), Sled Island (Calgary), Pitter Patter (Toronto), and Rifflandia (Victoria). 2010 saw the band heading east, including a headlining appearance at the L.A. Lights Concert Series in Surabaya, Indonesia, and a seven-city tour of China, culminating in a show in Shanghai during the 2010 Expo. 2011 saw the band cross the Pacific again to play Australia, culminating in a extremely well received showcase at the Big Sound Festival (Brisbane). Back home the band's notoriety as a stellar live act has seen them recently opening for the likes of The Temper Trap at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom and Metric at Victoria's Save-On-Foods Arena in front of more than 5000 hometown fans.

Recently signed to Arts & Crafts, the band is currently working on their debut full-length album with producer Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, New Pornographers, Dan Mangan) and mixer Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Grizzly Bear, Interpol). 2012 will see the band tour at home and abroad in support of the record and its various singles.
