Pinky Piglets (Toquiwa)
The Pinky Piglets started life in 1998 as ‘Minami Band’… and enjoyed instant success, being in demand for Japanese festivals and playing at local clubs. In 1999 they went on to win the ‘golden award’ at the Young Sound Festival in Tokyo and were further energized by winning the ‘Encouragement Award’ at the Tokyo Area Yamaha Teens Music Festival in 2001. The three founding members, Mikko, Asuja and Seiko all met in high school and fell easily into the dynamic J-pop-punk band they are today.
March 2011 marked the beginning of further world domination by Pinky Piglets. They had a strong start with three sold out concerts in Singapore. Their association with The Wedding Present came to fruition in August 2011 when they were asked to perform at David Gedge’s (TWP singer) self-curated At The Edge Of The Sea festivals in Brighton, Sussex and Holmfirth, Yorkshire. They charmed and captivated audiences, and sold out of their CDs and T-shirts. The two festivals were punctuated by well-attended concerts in Leicester and London.
At the end of 2011, they were notified that their application to the South By Southwest Music Festival 2012 in Austin, TX was successful and they began to make plans. The Wedding Present stepped in once again to invite them to play at all of their 2012 North American Tour dates.
