Music 2.0: Engaging Fans with Mobile Social Apps
In the intersecting worlds of music and social, how are startups and artists working together to enhance the music experience? By embracing mobile and social networks, bands are able to connect with their fans and interact with them directly. Companies like GroupMe, Mobile Roadie and GetGlue provide platforms for direct communication between fans and music labels, artists and festivals, fans use them to pull in info about their favorites and share the experience with their friends. During live events, mobile networking apps are helping people connect, coordinate plans and interact with their favorite musical personalities. By using technologies like these, artists and festivals can grow their fanbase, maintain loyalty and utilize a direct channel to provide relevant information to their fans, wherever they are, in real-time. These panelists will share their experiences working with music labels and how they went about building apps to provide consumers with the best music experience.

Glenn Miller is a digital strategy and marketing executive at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), an entertainment and sports agency based in Los Angeles with offices in New York, London, Nashville, and Beijing. Miller conceives and implements strategic and creative digital marketing campaigns for CAA’s music and comedy clients. Miller joined CAA in 2009 from AEG Live, where he served as the Director of Interactive Marketing. While at AEG Live, he created local and national digital media techniques which ultimately led to more than $100 million in ticket sales. He previously worked as Director of New Media and Brand Licensing at Bill Silva Management.
Matt Thomas is the Director of Business Development at GetGlue. At GetGlue, Matt runs development for music and has secured over 250 opportunities since his start in late January with artists such as, Beyonce, Elvis, American Idol, Queen, Selena Gomez and Rihanna.
Steve Cheney is head of Business Development at GroupMe, where he manages mobile and brand partnerships across sports, television, live events and music – including ESPN, MTV, Showtime, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bon Jovi, TicketMaster, and over 50 other marquee partners. Steve previously ran the mobile and consumer business at Integrated Device Technology, and has also worked in various finance and educational roles at companies such as Morgan Stanley and Kaplan. Steve also contributes for TechCrunch, and his writings have appeared in national publications such as CNN and The Wall Street Journal. He studied Electrical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara and has an MBA from Columbia University.
